This Just In --- Beef and Beer Raffle Items Guaranteed to Rock!!

Happy Friday All!

Usually a stop in at the ol Post Office isn't that exciting; open the box, out come the bills. But today was different as we were in receipt of not one, but TWO awesome items for the raffles for the Beef & Beer on Aug. 8. That's right, just more than one week away!!! Geez, this summer is just flyin by!

Anyway, back to the task at hand. So first we received AUTOGRAPHED 8x10s of current Philadelphia Flyers Jeff Carter and Danny Briere. Carter was one of the squad's leading scorers last year and an All-Star. Briere had an off year battling injuries, but was still an integral part of the Fly Guys' success.

Also we received TWO tickets to see the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies take on the Washington Nationals on Sept. 15 at Citizens Bank Park...wow! The Nats aren't havin the greatest year, but this is probably one of the Fightins' last home games of the season...

So, if you have been thinking to yourself "maybe I'll go," now's even more of a reason to throw down $25 for some great tunes from the Tragics, some delicious beef, and some cold beer...AND the chance to win some autographed Flyers memorabilia and some Phils Tix. Tickets for the beef and beer are avilable at Wolfgang's Books on Bridge Street, Foresta's Market and will be available at the door of hte Polish Club on Aug. 8. at 4.

Hope to see you there!!

Phoenixville Jaycees Beef and Beer Aug. 8

Hey gang!! Sorry it's been so long since the last post. I think we've finally recovered from the unbelievable success that was the 2009 Dogwood Festival.

Anyway, up next on our agenda is a beef and beer fundraiser at the Polish Club in Phoenixville on Saturday, Aug. 8 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will feature live music from The Tragics, a local rock band comprised of bass guitarist and singer Chris Bailey, guitar player and singer Adam Karros, drummer Ant Arra and keyboardist and saxophone player Mike Hoffman (http://www.myspace.com/thetragicsmusic).

I've been listening to these guys for a while and even coached one when he played ice hockey in high school (you know who you are!). Needless to say these guys are awesome and we really appreciate them coming out to do this for us.

In addition to The Tragics, there will be 50/50s and raffles for prizes such as tickets to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (http://www.ironpigsbaseball.com).

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Jaycees, who will in turn find some way to put that money back into the community.

Tickets for the event are $25 and will get you roast beef (obviously), side salads, beer, desserts, soda and water. Tickets are available at Wolfgang Books, 237 Bridge Street, 2nd Floor (http://wolfgangbooks.com) and Foresta's Market or by contacting the Jaycess at phoenixvillejaycees@gmail.com.

Hope to see you there!!!

Jacyees hold successful downtown cleanup

The Jaycees would like to send a big THANK YOU to all of those who participated in this Sunday's cleanup. The weather was gorgeous and our impact was evident. We counted at least 16 bags of trash and debris from just one of our dump sites, which just goes to show that downtown really needed a little TLC from the Jaycees and friends.

We also thank the businesses and organizations that helped make Sunday's cleanup a success:
Hipster Home
Steel City Coffee House
Franco Ristorante
Whitehorse Rugby
AroundPhoenixville.com
Brian Watson, Acting Code Director, Phoenixville Borough

Here are some snapshots of the cleanup (in addition to the photos taken by The Phoenix's Barry Taglieber):

Let's make this an annual event!

Phoenixville Jaycees Celebrating Earth Day...a little bit early

The Phoenixville Jaycees will be honoring Earth Day—in advance—with a Downtown Cleanup on Sunday, April 5th beginning at noon, rain or shine.

“The goal of the Jaycees is to have a positive impact on our community,” said Jaycees President Shane Dilworth. “The downtown is a jewel and is used by everyone.”

Jaycees members will meet at Headquarters (8 Gay Street) at noon to disperse teams throughout the downtown. The cleanup will focus on the 100–300 blocks of Bridge Street, the unit blocks of Gay and Main Streets, the 200 block of Church Street, as well as the Prospect Street and Bridge Street parking lots.

The event is not limited to Jaycees members; “we have sought out and received positive responses from the business owners, the Kiwanis, Whitehorse Rugby, and the borough,” said event organizer David Boelker. “We also encourage residents to pitch in and join us that day, even if for thirty minutes,” said Boelker.

The Jaycees request that volunteers bring a pair of work gloves that day. The Jaycees would like to thank those that have volunteered their time or donated items to this event: Hipster Home, Steel City Coffee House, Franco Ristorante, and Phoenixville Borough.
